The Arnsdorf Autumn Winter 09 collection continues the label’s focus on the relationship between the garment and its wearer, with an emphasis on versatility. My interest lies in designing garments with the experience of the wearer in mind. Extensive research has gone into the cutting techniques, construction and garment details which work to flatter the body. I also like the idea of garments that people can keep forever, pieces that take on new meaning as they age.
‘The Dawn’ collection draws from feelings of renewal and new beginnings and the resulting designs explore themes of adaptation, possibility and transformation. Drawing reference from classic menswear tailoring and using quality traditional fabrications – Merino wool, cashmere, silks and organic cottons combined with fine craftsmanship, the feminine silhouette is transformed at the whim of the wearer. The pieces are versatile playing with external and internal construction - ties on pants fold back to extended pocket bags, double sleeve wool dresses transform to tops; sash belts are built into coats and dresses; attached scarves drape from merino wool tees /skivvies and silk jumpsuits/dresses, and silk dresses can be tied in different formations. The wearer is invited to engage in the act of dress through using strategic twists and ties, fluid drapery and neat knots, folds and extended layers of luxurious soft fabrics. The collection presents a refreshing palate ranging from whites, pale pink, stone, tan, and double denim.
