Tell Us Your WHF Secrets ;)

We've reached out to women in the Arnsdorf community to reveal their personal tips on how to work from home in style and comfort while staying healthy, sane and engaged.

What is your name and what do you do?                                                                            Harriet Gregory                                                                                                           #harriethoundstooth                                                                                                                          I am a Concert and Event Manager at Melbourne Recital Centre.

What is your connection to Arnsdorf?                                                                                      I am a regular client of Arnsdorf and always recommended it to others. Love their sustainable practices and the transparency of the brand.

What are you doing to stay active?                                                                                 Wonderful Melbourne PT Nick Milright aka Fitzroy Fitness Club  as been doing weekly zoom classes. They are great and challenging. It is great to do something in 'real' time. No cheating by pressing pause. Also going for runs, I love the guided runs on the Nike Run Club app.

Are you reading a great book or do you have a favourite podcast?                                       l just finished reading 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier, I listened to it as an audio book. Such  a great way to experience the melodrama of the novel. With all the constant screens in our lives at the moment, it is refreshing to experience something without being static. I love to go for walks and listen to books. My all time favourite podcast is the Backlisted Podcast - the hosts John Mitchinson and Andy Miller bring new life to old books. Every fortnight they are joined by a guest to discuss a book that may have fallen into obscurity/is lesser known. It is wonderful. They are so passionate and so charismatic and I have discovered so many wonderful authors from listening to the podcast.

What about food. Are you cooking or are you addicted to a particular snack at the moment?                                                                                                                                          I have really been enjoying 'Nat's what I reckon' cooking videos on Instagram. Encouraging people to cook classic dishes and not buy the jar sauce versions. Very funny!  A much loved Northcote cafe that closed last year 'Sookie La La' have been sharing recipes of popular dishes from the cafe. Their 4 ingredient peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies are so moorish.

Are you motivated to 'dress' for the day or are you repeating outfits? What are your go-to pieces?                                                                                                                                               I had not been dressing up and getting around the house in old jeans and a t-shirt but todayand decided to do things differently and dressed up a bit. I actually wore my new Arnsdorf skivvy and my beautiful Le Kilt skirt I got in London last year and put on some fun eyeshadow. I felt so much better for it!  Been trying to get lots of wear out of my Verner summer dresses from recent collaboration with Lisa Waup before it gets too cold!

Have you been pleasantly surprised by engaging in something you normally wouldn't?              I normally hate days with lots of meetings and just want to get on my with my work, but WFH I really look forward to zoom meetings and collaborative tasks.

What songs are you feeling right now?                                                                                        I am loving the new Fiona Apple album 'Fetch the Bolt Cutters'.  Songs on repeat are here.

Stay well, from all of us at Arnsdorf X

We ARE the Revolution Baby!

We ARE the Revolution Baby!

This week is FASHION REVOLUTION WEEK.                                                                        Sometimes it feels like every week there is another cause or mission that we should be aware off. We don't want to start feeling dismissive or indifferent but I guess, it's really hard to keep up!                                                                                                                     Many of you will be here already because you love what we do and know of this cause, but just in case you don't, here it is...

The Little Guide to the Big Story of the Fashion Revolution

When did it start and why?                                                                                            Fashion Revolution was founded in 2013 in response to the Rana Plaza collapse which was a garment factory in the Dhaka district of Bangladesh. The building owners ignored warnings of structural cracks and ordered everyone to work. 1134 people died in the disaster with another 2500 people injured.

Who started it?                                                                                                                      FR was founded by Carry Sommers and Orola de Castro. Both women have had long careers in fashion focussing on radical transparency and up-cycling.

What did they hope to achieve?                                                                                Awareness about the human cost of making budget fashion and to encourage meaningful change in the industry.

How do they do this?                                                                                                            By getting the word out to as many people as possible.                                                            Their hashtag #WhoMadeYourClothes launched in 2015 was the No.1 global trend on twitter and by 2018 has received 99.8 impressions on twitter!   Their video The 2 Euro T-shirt which was a social experiment has had close to 8 million views and won a Cannes Lion Award.

Please share #WhoMadeYourClothes today and if you're a maker, please share #IMadeYourClothes.

Thank you to our beautiful team for being part of the Revolution and thank you, to you for supporting us.

The Sadie Tee

The Sadie is our winning long sleeved tee, the perfect piece for this trans-seasonal weather.

The shape reminds us of an easy, cool 70's vibe - think Ali McGraw in Love Story (without the sad bit!)

The deep, scooped neckline means you're not so covered up but the long sleeves are cosy giving you the best of both worlds.

Wear this neckline with a choker or a fine chain or add a kerchief or a warm scarf for cooler days.

Team it with something casual like our Calder or Wide Leg Jeans.

Cut from our classic mid weight Japanese organic cotton rib the Sadie is available  in Ecru, Black, Moss and Lilac.

We make each piece in our Ethical Clothing Australia certified factory located in Melbourne. Each garment is sewn by one of our incredible machinists that have over 20 years industry experience.

I Wanna Live Like Common People

I Wanna Live Like Common People

Dreamy...

Jarvis Cocker. Britpop dream boat. Most of us would know him from the band Pulp. Their song Common People an anthem at many 21st and possibly now 50th Birthday parties around the world.

In recent years Jarvis has hosted a string of music shows on BBC Radio, popular not only due to his playlist and guests but his incredible wit. He is hilarious.

At the end of 2019 Jarvis re-released one of his solo tracks "Still Running the World"which shot to No 2 on the British charts due to it's political commentary.

Now, Jarvis can read you to sleep. Mmmmmm. He has released two stories so far - Times Square in Montana by Richard Brautigan and The Spring Tune by Tove Jansson. Jarvis is releasing these audios regularly via his instagram #jarvisbransoncocker

Woman of the moment always, Dolly Parton is also treating us with some children's bedtime stories via her incredible book charity called Imagination Library. The library raises millions of dollars each year to give a book a month to just over 1.5 million children. The library has also been established in Australia.

Dolly is reading a story once a week for 10 weeks live via the library website, tucked up in bed in her cute PJ's!   You can also watch them back here.

Gemma Cahill - Production Manager

Gemma wears the Martha Dress in Ivory

What are you doing to stay active?

I’ve been going for a daily walk... always a new route and always residential streets (I love sneaking a peak at different houses and gardens!) The dahlia’s at the moment are insane!

I also did Blogilates and was sore for 3 days. Not yet been back...

Are you reading a great book or do you have a favourite podcast?

I’ve been struggling a little to get into my reading. I’m half way through ‘See What You Made Me Do’ by Jess Hill but it’s a little heavy so I’m taking it slow. I’m finding short things from Man Repeller or BOF articles much more satisfying. Also the news of a morning.

Podcasts yes yes yes! I’ve been re-listening to my favs from Dumbo Feather - especially the interviews with Rhea Dempsey, Hugh Mackay and Paul Hawkin. Then rotating between This American Life, How I Built This and BOF

What about food. Are you cooking or are you addicted to a particular snack at the moment?

Perfecting a poached egg, vegetarian curries and my vegan date caramel slice. My housemates and I have also been having a Sunday roast together 🥰

Are you motivated to 'dress' for the day or are you repeating outfits? What are your go-to pieces?

I am consciously dressing for versatility and comfort. My days are often filled with spontaneous walks, gardening, cooking and cleaning so I’m choosing clothes that can adapt to all those tasks. Lots of knits. My Merino Skivvy  and Sadie Top have been in high rotation.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by engaging in something you normally wouldn't?

I’ve picked up my knitting needles again which I haven’t done since university, and am really enjoying it! Current project is a baby blanket for my soon to be niece. I’ve also been thoroughly enjoying my daily walks and will try to implement this into my routine post corona. Lastly, smiling and saying hi 👋 to strangers on the street. You’ll never regret saying howdly doodly!

If you're like us, you are slamming that list of movies you have always been meaning to watch. Now is our chance!

Sure, there are your options like Netflix and Stan. Have you tried MUBI?                        It's a little more arthouse, a little more obscure with some classics  through to recent releases.   They are currently showing Mike Nichols' The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. It's a vintage classic with the unforgettable soundtrack featuring Simon & Garfunkel.                                                                                                                                    MUBI also to like to focus on contemporary and are currently screening the 2019 release by Chilean director Camilla Jose Donoso.

The Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI) have also come to the rescue with a free double screening every Wednesday night!

Each Tuesday, Kristi Matheson the Director of ACMI's Film Programmes announces their selection via Instagram with links for both films for the following night.

ACMI then encourage you to tweet in, post viewing to open up a discussion on the films.

Tonight are two incredible films by powerhouse American screenwriter and film director Kelly Reichardt.

"Set under the vast Montana skies, Reichardt's sixth feature Certain Women paints a delicate portrait of the lives of four women" played by Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Lily Gladstone and Laura Dern. This film was a highlight at MIFF in 2016.

The second film is Meek's Cutoff.  "Settlers travelling through the Oregon dessert in 1845 find themselves stranded in harsh conditions" and stars Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan.                                                                                                        Go to the ACMI website for the film links here.

She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,

Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

We have restocked our beautiful Blanca Blouse and in sizes 4 to 16.                             Cut from a double layer 100% Organic Cotton, it is semi fitted through the bodice which finishes at high hip.                                                                                                           The classic boat neck is centred with contrast hand covered oval shaped dome buttons in black.                                                                                                                                 The clincher? Those stunning sleeves that are full enough for the right amount of drama but that sit back just on your wrist so you can live uninhibited.

We make each piece in our Ethical Clothing Australia certified factory located in Melbourne. Each garment is sewn by one of our incredible machinists that have over 20 years industry experience.

Thea Basiliou - Manager Retail Operations

Thea is wearing the Pearl Top in Cream

What are you doing to stay active?

We've had some stunning days so enjoying walks through Collingwood, Fitzroy and up to Carlton and Exhibition gardens and also through Fitzroy North to Merri Creek.     I feel lucky that we live in such a beautiful neighbourhood with so many parks, private flower gardens and fruit trees.

I'm doing a 30 day online yoga challenge with Adriene which has been fun and also free which is amazing.

Are you reading a great book or do you have a favourite podcast?

As usual I'm trying to do everything haha!

I have nearly finished reading Year of the Monkey by Patti Smith which is not as great as some her previous books but still very engaging.                                              I  finished an audio book called Art Sex Music by Cosey Fanni Tutti which was incredible! I have started another audio book which is a classic - The Go-Between by LP Hartley.

The only regular podcast I listen to is the Business ofFashion which very informative but I am obsessed with Dolly Parton's America. What an amazing woman!

Otherwise, I've been slamming movies and mostly vintage including Hitchcock's Marnie and Vertigo, The Women, Don't Look Now, Al Pacino in The Panic in Needle Park, John Cassavetes' Faces plus docos on Johnny Cash and Joan Didion.

I've also started watching Unorthodox on Netflix which is very interesting.

What about food. Are you cooking or are you addicted to a particular snack at the moment?

I've been baking just a little too often for our waistlines! My regulars are banana bread, carrot cake and blueberry muffins.

My go-to dinners are various combination of brown rice bowls inspired by Terror Twilight! Otherwise seafood paella, stuffed capsicums or a big chunky vegetable soup are favourites.

Are you motivated to 'dress' for the day or are you repeating outfits? What are your go-to pieces?

I'm still  taking on most days on with an 'outfit'. I guess it's the way I express myself and sets my mood for the day.  If I'm going for a walk, I'll put on a nice dress with maybe a hat and always a lipstick. I'm enjoying mixing casual tees and sweats from Aries and Bianca Chandon with my fashion pieces to dress them down a little.

My favourite pieces atm are a mix of Arnsdorf, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, JW Anderson, Martine Rose Lee Mathews and Mara Hoffman.

I've packed away the heels for now and loving my Teva Hurricane Sandals or my AriesxSuicoke Sandals.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by engaging in something you normally wouldn't?

I am obsessed with the Country Music series currently screening on SBS! I have quite a diverse taste in music leaning mostly to punk and never considered myself a country music fan apart from maybe some Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline so it's been fun learning the history of it all.

What songs are you feeling right now?

Listen to my Spotify playlist here.

Stay Inspired. Keep Connected.

Stay Inspired. Keep Connected.

One of the many things we love about Melbourne life is its brimming creative community. It's normally a never ending list of art openings, live music gigs and theatre, in fact too much to do!

I'm sure like us, you are missing them at the moment but we are energised about still being able to engage with them and even support them.

Many local galleries from small to large are creating ways that we can still 'see' their exhibitions and learn about their artists.

Gallerist Olivia Radonich from A Reading Room in the Nicholas Building is posting some beautiful and intimate studio visits like this one with Maggie Brink.

Adam Stone from LON Gallery in Collingwood has created a video 'walk through' of the current exhibition at his space on Easey Street.   Titled For And Against Classicism it features the work of Peta Petrakis and Ryan Hancock which you can watch here.

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) have created some fantastic virtual tours of their current exhibitions including Keith Haring + Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines and Collecting Comme which you can see here.

Check in with your favourite galleries online and see what they're up to. Don't be afraid to email them for a catalogue. Even if you can't buy anything, they will value your support.

Painting featured is by emerging Melbourne artist Julia Trybala.

The Arnsdorf Team reveal their personal tips on how to work from home in style and comfort while staying healthy, sane and engaged.

Anna Worthington - Stylist at Arnsdorf

Anna is wearing the Roberta Tank in Lilac, the CalderJean in Butter and the Nelson Made Roberta Sandals.

What are you doing to stay active?
I'm attempting a 30 min run every day, as well as some light weights, bouncing on a trampoline and yoga. If all else fails, I'm going for a walk in an outfit that cheers me up.

Are you reading a great book or do you have a favourite podcast?
I'm trying to finish the book "A Short History of Myth" by Karen Armstrong. It's pretty illuminating and helpful in understanding our modern society's ideals and values and the ways we perceive reality compared to our ancestors.

What about food. Are you cooking or are you addicted to a particular snack at the moment?
Nothing much has changed for me! Just no steaks at the Fitzroy Town Hall or roo from Napier Hotel. Devastating.

Are you motivated to 'dress' for the day or are you repeating outfits? What are your go-to pieces?
I'm actually LOVING this side of isolation. I'm wearing things that I just haven't found the time or place to wear for the last while but still loved and didn't want to sell or give away. I'm taking pictures of my outfits and sharing to my insta mostly for my own sanity and to document this strange time in visual form. Occasionally I get a comment and it makes me smile and feel connected to the outside world again. Clothes are a language for me. I guess I've been using them as a way to connect to fond memories and maintain a sense of "normality".

I'm going for the more relaxed cuts of jeans, tees, blouses, cardigans. I've been living in Birkenstocks when I've headed out, which I honestly never thought I would become THAT person. Ha ha. Meanwhile my cowboy boots are collecting dust. I'm not wearing nearly as much black, which used to be my go-to.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by engaging in something you normally wouldn't?
Yes! I use my balcony way more now. Going out there when the sun is shining feels like a treat. I've started staring at the sky a lot more and listening to the quiet.

What songs are you feeling right now?

Listen to my Spotify playlist here.

Hello We Miss You (but we can still hook up)

Well, it's been a couple of weeks of settling in to this new life and I think most of us are starting to get the hang of it.

Sure it's weird but as it turns out, we are strong and optimistic.

As you probably know, we have temporarily closed both of our physical stores a couple of weeks ago ahead of the nation wide shut down, to protect our staff and community.

You've been ordering (thank you!) and we've been working on a system to keep Arnsdorf running in this new environment. We feel energised by our brand missionwhich could never have meant more!

What are you doing to stay active?

I’ve been trying out new yoga and pilates workouts at home, currently doing kundalini yoga with Kimilla I’m on day 1 of her 10 day transformation program. I also signed up to Fluidform pilates at home. I’m trying to use this time at home to get into routines of being more active everyday than I usually would. I’m also jumping on the trampoline and playing tag with my 2 kids and playing the Homecourt basketball app with them. I’ve been enjoying walks around my streets and in nature when I get the chance.

Are you reading a great book or do you have a favourite podcast?

I’m halfway through Three Women by Lisa Taddeo, which I started reading over the summer holidays and was really enjoying, I find it hard to carve out time to read a book when I’m not away on holidays, between fitting in work and having the kids here 24/7 but that will be my next goal to get back in to it. I have been reading to the kids a lot and just finished The Midnight Gang by David Walliams which I enjoyed and so did my 6 year old daughter. I chop and change podcasts depending on what I feel like listening to but if I’m cooking alone I find it’s a good time to listen to one.

What about food. Are you cooking or are you addicted to a particular snack at the moment?

I’m cooking a lot, mainly pasta, Japanese curry, mexican or soup. I have also been quite into making these gf/vegan brownies.

Are you motivated to 'dress' for the day or are you repeating outfits? What are your go-to pieces?

Each day feels a little different in terms of getting dressed depending on the weather and if I have any Zoom meetings. Last week I talked at the Legacy Summit via zoom and put on the Blanca Blouse and some lipstick which made me feel brighter. This week I had a FaceTime photoshoot for Harper's Bazaar which was interesting, so I put on Suit Trousers, the Prudence Shirt and the Celeste Blazer. The rest of the time I’ve been enjoying being comfortable and cosy, I’ve been wearing the Nora Skirt a lot and my merino rib skivvies.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by engaging in something you normally wouldn't?

I think generally just slowing down and prioritising things I’ve been meaning to for a while like meditating. Also staying more connected to friends through Whatsapp groups.
